Waking up on Friday morning to the news of Anthony Bourdain’s death was heartbreaking. I’ve enjoyed his shows for years and he is one of my inspirations for travel. While I’ve not (yet) had the opportunity to travel many of the same places as him, I try to travel with his zeal and passion for local food and culture no matter where I go.
Suicide is on the rise the past two decades. No one is immune and we all know someone who has been affected. There are resources if you or someone you love needs help. I’ve included a list at the end of this post, but it is by no means exhaustive. If you know of others, please feel free to add them in the comments.
In Bourdain’s honor, I made his macaroni and cheese for dinner Friday night. It’s relatively simple, but contains oodles of cheese. He suggests adding ham. I think bacon would be great in it, as well. You can get the recipe here.
Get that damn lobster out of my mac and cheese! Truffles do not make it better. If you add truffle oil, which is made from a petroleum-based chemical additive and the crushed dreams of nineties culinary mediocrity, you should be punched in the kidneys.
