How do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? I’m not even going to start on any of the political meanings of the holiday…or how we here in America don’t celebrate anywhere near the same way as the folks in Ireland do…or how my ancestors were Protestant and so were associated with the color orange rather than the color green…I’m just going to eat some delicious food, give my kid who loves socks some funny ones, and drink whiskey in everything. OK, you got me…I do that last thing anyway, no need for a holiday…
And, knowing that, it should not surprise you that this week’s Thirsty Thursday post is Irish Coffee. Now…full disclosure…I didn’t have Irish whiskey on hand. So, this is really “Coffee with Whiskey In It” but just humor me…
Here’s what I did… I put together 1/2 an ounce of simple syrup, 1 1/2 ounces of Jim Beam Red Stag, and 4 ounces of hot coffee (chocolate covered cherry flavor, it goes really well with the Red Stag) in a mug. I floated 1 ounce of heavy whipping cream on top. The Leprechauns will approve.
Sláinte!
