Remember the days before Pixar when we could watch cartoon movies without suffering heavy emotional damage? Yeah, those were fun times…Big Hero 6 is one of those emotionally crippling, yet super fun movies that the studio puts out into the world on a regular basis. It’s a great bit of storytelling and from it, we learn that the aunt who is raising our hero makes killer wings. Since there was a big game of the football on yesterday, I thought it would be the perfect time to try them out.
This recipe comes from the Disney Parks Blog and is inspired by Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. I made it as written except for one small change. Looking at the sauce recipe it felt like it was going to be really thin unless cooked. Instead of cooking it, I simply left out the water and cornstarch. The sauce was still a bit thin, but we thought it was perfect. If you like a thicker, stickier sauce, I would use the water and cornstarch and heat as necessary to get the desired consistency.
The wings were delicious! They were crispy and a bit sweet. The slightly asian flair was perfect considering they came from “San Fransokyo.” They were not spicy, despite the cayenne pepper. Next time, I will either up the cayenne or add a splash of sriracha to the sauce to kick them up a bit.
I highly recommend these for your next big game!
