Those of you that know me outside of this blog know that my older son loves acting. He has been in a constant state of auditioning, rehearsing, or performing for about a year now. He’s currently in a production of Elf, Jr. Yes. They made a musical version of the Will Ferrell movie. And then they made a kids version of the musical version. I know. Theater gets confusing sometimes.
One of the best parts of the original movie is the description of the elves’ food groups, “…candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.” I’m pretty sure I might be an elf. It would explain a lot, from my height to the small bottle of maple syrup I keep in my sleeve…
In honor of the J-man and elves everywhere, today’s Thirsty Thursday contribution features maple syrup. Use the real thing here, it’s worth it.
This particular drink would make Buddy sad, because I don’t think whiskey is anywhere in his food groups, but it’s definitely in mine. Maybe I’m a salty elf… In any case, the Maple-Bourbon Smash is two parts bourbon (I actually used Jack Daniels’ Winter Cider Whiskey), one part maple syrup (I *may* have used a bit more than that), and one part lemon juice (I have a nice sour mix that I used.) If you like sweet drinks, this will be right up your alley. If you are not an elf, use regular bourbon and go easy on the maple syrup.
