The One with the Moist Maker

I hope you all had a phenomenal Thanksgiving if you’re here in the States. It’s one of my favorite weekends of the year and, for me, ushers in my favorite season – holidays and coziness and family and fun and lots of food.

Today’s recipe has been many years in the making. I love a turkey sandwich and I usually go with squishy white bread, mayo, stuffing, and turkey. Simple and delicious. However, I’ve wanted to create Monica Geller’s Turkey Sandwich since that particular episode of Friends aired. If you haven’t seen it (ummm, what?!?) buy it through my affiliate link and good karma will follow you for all of your days. Anyway… During the episode we learn from Ross that, “My sister makes these amazing turkey sandwiches. Her secret is, she puts an extra slice of gravy-soaked bread in the middle. I call it the Moist Maker.”

Now, there are versions of this recipe all over the internet, after all, the episode originally aired in 1998…wow…that makes me feel really old. I’m going to forget about that by eating a delicious sandwich… A lot of the recipes have lettuce and tomato. Nope. Not with gravy. Not working for me. Here’s what I did.

I put one piece of squishy white bread in a baggie with some gravy and let it soak for a few hours. I wanted my Moist Maker to just sort of dissolve into the other ingredients. At sandwich making time, I took two more pieces of bread and commenced assembly. Layer up bread, turkey (white or dark, your choice), the Moist Maker, stuffing (more is always better when it comes to stuffing,) some cranberry sauce, and the other non-gravied bread. Squish it down so it fits in your mouth. Eat up. Wish you had soaked another piece of bread for a second sandwich. Console yourself with pumpkin pie. Easy-peasy.

Now go watch some more football. You’ve done enough for today.
