The Fig Lebowski

I’m sorry. Not really. I just can’t help it. I love Bob Belcher’s punny burgers of the day. In the episode, “Bye Bye Boo Boo” we see the “Fig Lebowski Burger.” Obviously it’s a reference to The Big Lebowski, but I decided to skip the white russian and get straight to the burger!

This is not the first Bob’s Burgers recipe I’ve tried and you’ve heard all about my love for the Belchers when I made the Grand Brie Burger and the Ebenezer Bleu-ge Burger. I’m not going to rehash all of my reasons that you should be watching the show, but… you should be watching the show.

This burger was pretty straightforward. I did a simple burger mix of extra lean ground beef and Montreal Steak Seasoning. I topped it with very thinly sliced raw onion, a cheddar cheese with caramelized onions from Trader Joe’s, and fig preserves from one of my favorite Smoky Mountain stops, Smoky Mountain Farms. Cook the burger medium rare to medium. Please don’t dry out your burger and turn it into leather. Please.

This burger was terrific. The raw onions and seasoning in the burger mix cuts the sweetness from the caramelized onions in the cheese and the fig preserves. The cheddar adds a sharpness that is a perfect match for the other toppings.

Have you made any of Bob’s burgers of the day? I want to hear all about them! Need some more inspiration? There’s an official cookbook to get you started!
